Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all passed away at his home on April 28, 2026, at the age of 83. Richard was born November 7, 1942, in Provo, Utah to Elroy and Jenny Murdoch. He grew up in Genola, Utah.

He married Ann Robertson for time and all eternity on September 30, 1965, in the Manti Utah Temple. They made their first home in Payson, Utah where they were blessed with six wonderful children.

Richard served as a Payson City Police Officer for 11 years while also working as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service (USPS). He was one of the organizers for the first Payson City Ambulance Service and was an EMT instructor.

In 1978, Richard moved his family to Cleveland, Utah to become the town's new postmaster. He worked in Cleveland for many years and then transferred to the Huntington office where he worked until he retired in 2008. He retired with 38 years of service with USPS.

Richard also served his community and participated in Emery County Search and Rescue, was a member of the Cleveland Town Council, and was a member of the Lion's Club.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He served his first mission at age 19 in Southern California. Later, he would serve three more missions with Ann by his side. Richard also served eight years in the Manti Temple.

Richard loved the outdoors; Fish Lake was his favorite place. Richard cherished spending time with his favorite people, his family. He played drums in the Route 10 band and very much enjoyed dancing.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ann, of 60 years, his six children, Nancy (Kirk) Hansen, Kenneth (Cherie) Murdoch, Leslie (John) Sloan, Gina (Brent) Sitterud, Joseph (Jamie) Murdoch, Kent (Kirsten) Murdoch, 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, brothers, Robert (Susan) Murdoch, Reece (Launa) Murdoch, and Lee R. (Alice) Murdoch, brother-in-law, Don Gilbert, and sister-in-law, Debbie Hobbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy and Jenny Murdoch, sister Lecia Gilbert, brother Layne Murdoch, and granddaughter Shandee Murdoch.

Richard will be remembered for his exceptional kindness to everyone, his unconditional love for his family, and his never-ending love for his Savior.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 350 West 40 North in Cleveland, Utah. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Cleveland Town Cemetery, 215 North 600 East, Cleveland, Utah.
