After a life of love and quiet grace, Sherwood Buckner of Newburg, IN has passed.

Here is what we wish the world to know of Sherwood.

Sherwood spent his working life as ['machine operator'] and held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Those who live by belief leave a different kind of mark.

Sherwood Buckner, 66, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway, Newburg, Indiana. Born in Christian County, Kentucky, on February 17, 1960, the son of the late Lionel Buckner and Ethel Pryor Buckner.

Sherwood was employed with International Paper, now Huhtamaki. He's been employed there for 37 years and has worked as a machine operator. He attended and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in Guthrie, Kentucky. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, mowing, cooking, working, buying tools, assembling things, and remodeling. He was a handyman always willing to help.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Elizabeth Carlisle, William Buckner, Bernice Holmes, Ruth Buckner, and Donald Buckner.

He leaves to mourn his passing a son, Shermarkice (Erica) McGowan; six siblings, Walter (Earline) Buckner, Jessye Torian, Eula "Edie" Buckner, Lena (Donald) Acree, Shelia (Andre) Gray, John "Pedi" (Cynthia) Buckner; stepson, Antonio (April) McGowan; five grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
