Stanley R. "Red" Dorney, 84, of West Salem, IL, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg IL, with military rites. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made directly to Parkersburg Christian Church, 301 E. Parker Street, Parkersburg, IL 62452. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.

Stanley was born on September 18, 1941, in Allendale, IL, the son of Jess William and Evelyn (Griffin) Dorney. He married Mary Rothrock on May 8, 1964, and she survives.

Stanley served in the United States Army. He was extremely proud to be an American and loved to display the American flag. He worked for Lamkinland Dairy Farm for 3 years from 1968 to 1971, Curtis-Jansen Harvestore for 11 years from 1972-1983, and then Putnam Trucking for 15 years. Stanley enjoyed fishing, farming, and flower gardening.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Mary Dorney of West Salem, IL; daughter, Cinda (Mitch) Hulskotter of Effingham; grandchildren, Jamie Dorney of Tennessee, Amber Dorney of Tennessee, Candra (Brandon) Kronewitter of Herrin, IL, and Holly (Colby) Adams of Mason, IL; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rose (Raymond) Riley of McLeansboro, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Dorney; and siblings, Dale Dorney, Gene Dorney, Leroy Jackson, John Dorney, Irene Dorney, Della Riley, Stella Brian, Alberta Brian, Robert Jackson, and a brother in infancy.
