After a life of love and quiet grace, Sylvia Goodman of Delray Beach, FL has passed.
These words are offered in her memory — small, but heartfelt.
Some days simply pass; others stay with us forever.
Sylvia Goodman of Delray Beach, FL, formerly a longtime Newton resident, passed away on Wednesday, April 22 nd at 96 years of age. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Louis & Anna (Shriberg) Kessler.
Sylvia grew up in Mattapan with her two brothers, Donald and Sumner. Sylvia met Herbert (Herb) Goodman, a photographer, and their relationship blossomed into love and marriage. Beginning their lives as a married couple in Mattapan, where their first child, Audrey, was born, they later purchased a home in the Oak Hill Park section of Newton, where they welcomed the birth of their second daughter, Debra.
Sylvia worked as the bookkeeper for Herb's photography business, and both Sylvia & Herb were proud founding members of Temple Beth Avodah in Newton. Later in life, Sylvia & Herb built a new, larger home, also in Oak Hill Park, where they resided until Herb's unexpected passing in 1999, at 73 years old, surrounded by generations of his devoted family.
Sylvia was the loving mother of Audrey Goodman & her partner Dale Moderow, Debra Goodman & her husband Dennis Ozer and "Boston daughter" Sari Rapkin, Debra's 40 plus year 'sister from another mother', whom Sylvia thought of as a daughter. Sylvia was the cherished grandmother of Adam Ozer & his wife Beka Torlay-Ozer, Jacqui Adams & Wyatt Nelson, James & Kelly Adams and Jakob Ozer. She was the proud great-grandmother of Lucy Nelson, Rudi Adams and Rai Adams. She was the dear sister of the late Donald Kessler and Sumner Kessler.
