Peggy Lynn Gore of Loris, SC, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.
Here is the shape of a life remembered with love.
Peggy held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
What is held in faith is rarely lost.
Mrs. Peggy Lynn McDowell Gore, age 86, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Loris Rehab and Nursing Center.
Born June 28, 1939 in Loris, Peggy was the daughter of the late James Pinkney McDowell and the late Callie Floyd McDowell. She was a faithful member of Loris First Baptist Church for 50 years and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her professional career covered more than 30 years in banking where she retired as Vice-President of Horry County State Bank in the late 1990's. Peggy was an accomplished cook who was famously known for her chicken salad and her Thanksgiving dressing. She also enjoyed collecting depression glass.
C. C. and Peggy were married June 28, 1959 and spent the next 66 years caring for each other and their family. Their deep love for each other was lived out in their daily lives and provided an unparalleled example for their sons and all who knew them. C. C. was her husband, her best friend, and when she needed him most, her devoted caregiver.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Liston (Elouise) McDowell, Vergie (Clyde) Boyd, Vernice (Robert) Boyd, Ethel (Harry) Elvington, Bonnie (Wyman) Lupo, Pat Culler; and her brother-in-law, Bill Stevens.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, C. C. Gore, III; her sons, Chris Gore and wife Melinda of Little River, SC, and Mark Gore and wife Wendy of Lexington, SC; her grandchildren, Ashley Roach and husband Shane, Ali Gore, Ann Elizabeth Price and husband Nathan, and Abby Murphy and husband Ryan; her great-grandchildren, Kamden Gore, Cain Roach, Sawyer Roach, Sadie Price, and Riley Murphy; her sister, Eunice Stevens; and her brother-in-law, Joe Culler, Sr.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 11:30AM-12:30PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel, with the funeral service immediately following, officiated by Rev. Shane Phillips and Dr. Louis Venable. Burial will follow at Twin City Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff and management of Wilson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Gore.
