With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Alice Cottrell of -, OK.
The following words honor a life that mattered to many.
Family is the thread that runs through every story.
Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
II Corinthians 5:6-8
Alice Lee Cottrell was born on May 23, 1948 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. She was the 8th child of 12 and 4th daughter of Olen and Margie Cottrell. Family was everything to Alice.
She passed away peacefully at her own home, in her own bed, on Monday, May 4, 2026 with Kathy, Danna, and Michael kneeling beside her. As usual, Alice got what Alice wanted-no nursing home for her!
Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May5, 2026 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Whitebead Cemetery, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma with Brother Kyler Cottrell officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Derrin Bollinger, Bradley Cottrell, Alex Erway, Bobby Nabors, Jr., B. Wayne Nabors III, and Chase Schlebach.
Honorary Pallbearers: Tony Cottrell, Larry Harrison, and Matthew Thompson.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers and their wives: Charles and Nona Cottrell, Dow and Sharon Cottrell, Baley and Wanda Cottrell, and Sammy and Elaine Cottrell. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Frelin Bollinger. Her sister Sandy Cottrell Nabors was President of the welcoming committee with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews joining in the celebration. I'm sure Garvin, Donald Joe, Tony, and Gary were glad to see her!
Alice leaves behind five sisters: Retha Nelson of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Alta Ward of Greenville, Texas, Kathy Santos, Danna Thompson and husband Michael, and Rachel Willis all of Canadian, Oklahoma, and brother-in-law: Bobby Nabors of Oklahoma City.
Alice leaves behind special longtime friends whose encouraging notes and calls showed up regularly. She counted on them: Lawrence Brock, Christine Collins, Cindy Etheridge and Cyndi Nabors Johnson.
Alice's only sadness about going on home was leaving behind her babies. You were special to her. Especially her Favorite… Well, you know who you are!
When she was small, Papa enrolled Alice in the State School in Norman. He practically did a U-turn because Sammy demanded he go back and get her!
She later graduated from Carver Center in Oklahoma City-a little early-handicapped people made her nervous.
Alice's primary ministry was to pray for the numerous preachers, teachers, singers, musicians, and other ministers in her family, but she was ready to pray about whatever you needed.
Her happy smile blessed everyone she met.
Let's all meet her in the rapture; that'll make her happy!
