With heavy hearts, we share the passing of August Garth Schmidt of Binghamton, NY.
These few paragraphs cannot hold a life, but they may carry a memory.
August spent his working life as ['Direct Support Professional for Sunmount Developmental Center in Tupper Lake'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
The lessons of service stay, even when the years move on.
August Garth Schmidt, 82, of Binghamton, a native of Summer Hill, New York passed away April 30 in Johnson City, NY. He is survived by his children, Frederick Schmidt, Lorena (Randy) Carew, Mark (Nicole) Schmidt, Jerusa (Fred) Williams and Andrew S. Schmidt; countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Roger, Donald and Jeanine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Augie, Jr. and Thomas, his parents Eugene and Elizabeth and his wife Carol.
Raised in Summer Hill, New York, August graduated from Groton High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1968-1974, attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his lifetime he held many jobs, including driving truck for Schwanns Food as well as cross country driving. He also drove school bus. He concluded his career as a Direct Support Professional for Sunmount Developmental Center in Tupper Lake, New York.
He enjoyed gardening, old TV Westerns, country music - especially Kenny Rogers and watching WWF Wresting. He also simply loved pigs and enjoyed raising many over the years. More than anything though, he loved his family.
