Services celebrating the life of Edna Chumley Henderson will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating will be Pastor Dr. Norris J. Chumley of New York City, Edna's nephew. Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery, on St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport at a private ceremony.
Edna was born December 29, 1932, in Urania, Louisiana and passed away on May 4, 2026, in Ambler, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest daughter of Ellen Gary Chumley and Lon Downing Chumley. She graduated from LaSalle High School, Olla, Louisiana and attended Centenary College, Shreveport and earned her Batchelor of Arts from Baylor University, Dallas.
Edna began her professional career with Western Electric and AT&T in 1969 and later was transferred to Dallas, Texas where she made her home for 25 years. After moving to Shreveport, she also was later employed at KTAL-TV, Shreveport, and Gladstone Financial Services.
Edna Henderson was a true Southern Lady who instilled her joy of life to all who came to know her. She was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church and attended the Friendship Sunday School class. She also was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Toastmasters International and was a motivational speaker. While living in Texas, she was honored to be the keynote speaker for many Christian women's conferences throughout the state.
Edna Chumley Henderson was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Michelle Chumley Henderson, two sisters, Cleota Chumley and Mary Ellen Thibodaux, and twin brothers, Norris and Morris Chumley. She is survived by a niece, Dr. Ellen Chumley, and two nephews, Hays H. Chumley and Dr. Norris J. Chumley. She had two great nephews, Jack and Nathaniel Chumley, and a great great nephew, Cormack Buskirk Stanek-Chumley.
