A life is more than dates on a stone; here is a small portion of her story.
Memory has a way of softening time.
Estamae Catherine Hawse Wingfield, 84, of Winchester, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026, at a local nursing home in Winchester, VA.
Estamae was born on July 29, 1941 in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Eston G. Hawse and Stella Peacemaker Hawse Cooper. She worked for Hardee's for 20 years in Winchester and later as a cook at Hayfield Family Restaurant in Hayfield, VA. She was a member of Ebenezer Christian Church in Gore, VA. Estamae loved her flowers, bluegrass music, Elvis, car rides, seafood dinners and most of all, time with her family.
Estamae married Robert C. Wingfield on September 21, 1957, in Hagerstown, MD. Robert died on June 17, 2025.
Surviving are two daughters: Barbara J. Allegra (Joseph) of Winchester, VA; Sharon D. Wingfield (Terry) of Stanley, NC; a sister: Dorothy Spaid of Winchester, VA; three grandchildren: Kelly, Ashley & Justin and five great-grandchildren: Zachary, Kamdyn, Ethan, Owen & Natalie.
Family will receive friends at the Ebenezer Christian Church in Gore, VA on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 12-1:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM. Officiating will be Rev. Tom Mounts. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
