With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Helen Poyner Pruett of Fairburn, GA.

What follows is not the whole story, but a thread of it.

The heart keeps better records than the calendar.

Helen Poyner Pruett, a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated servant to her community, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on August 14, 1933, Helen's life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering faith.

Helen grew up in humble beginnings, experiencing firsthand the challenges of poverty. Despite these early hardships, she was determined to provide a better life for her family. Her strength and compassion were evident as she helped raise her siblings and later, her own children. Her devotion to her family knew no bounds, and her grandchildren lovingly called her "Gran."

A devoted Christian, Helen lived her life as a praying mother and grandmother, teaching the values of Jesus to everyone she met. Her faith was a guiding light in her journey, and she imparted this wisdom to her family, leaving a legacy of love and devotion.

Helen dedicated herself to the service of children, having spent over 20 years as a teacher assistant for the Fulton County Board of Education. She had a special place in her heart for those in need, having lived in a children's home herself for a time. This experience inspired her to work as a housemother at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, where she gave back with grace and dedication.

Her life was marked by hard work, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones. Helen is preceded in death by her first husband and father to her children, Gene Poyner; her second husband, George Thomas Pruett, and her son, Wayne Poyner. She is survived by her loving family: daughters Diana Merrick (Reg) and Machelle Payton; sons Alan Poyner (Penny) and Rocky Poyner; grandchildren Chelsea, Adam, Cole (Erin), McKae, and Amanda; great-grandchildren Kierstyn, Colin, Dalton, and Adalyn; and great-great-grandchild Kai.

Services to celebrate Helen's life will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 2 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with visitation from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Helen Pruett's legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories, woven through the lives she touched and the hearts she warmed.
