With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Malvin Porter Jr. of Troy, MI.

Some stories deserve to be told slowly. This is one of them.

Malvin spent his working life as ['engineer with Ford Motor Co'] and held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

What Malvin believed shaped how he loved.

Malvin Porter, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on May 1, 2026, at the age of 79 in Troy, Michigan. Born on June 5, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, Malvin lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and community.

Malvin proudly served his country as a Communications Tech Army Veteran during the Vietnam War, where he forged lifelong bonds with his military brothers. He continued his service at home as a dedicated member of the Colin L. Powell AMVETS Post 910, where he held roles as Commander, Historian, and Treasurer, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his fellow veterans.

Professionally, Malvin enjoyed a successful career as an engineer with Ford Motor Co., a position that allowed him to combine his keen interest in electronics with his professional endeavors. Outside of work, Malvin had many passions. He was an avid fisherman and bowler, and he cherished time spent riding his bike, including memorable trips to Belle Isle in Detroit with his military companions. A lover of sports and travel, Malvin found joy in exploring new places and sharing these experiences with his loved ones.

Malvin is remembered with love by his devoted wife, Lorine, and his children, Delisha (Anthony) Dennis and Marcel (Luciana) Porter. He was a proud grandfather to Bryce, Kimora, and Aiden. Malvin's legacy also lives on through his brothers Dwight and Dennis Porter, as well as several nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished their time with him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Malvin and Lizzie Mae Porter, his brother Linsey Porter, and his sister Brenda Stanley. Malvin's warmth, wisdom, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Little Rock Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, instate 10:00 AM with the service following at 11:00 AM
