With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Mrs. Elke Long of Midway, GA.

The following words honor a life that mattered to many.

Mrs. spent her working life as ['seamstress at Chatham Dress Sewing Factory'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

What is taught through a parent's example outlasts what is taught through their words.

Mrs. Elke Long, 88, passed away peacefully at Magnolia Manor on April 28, 2026. She was born March 29, 1938 in Germany. She was a longtime resident of Midway, Georgia.

Mrs. Long worked as a seamstress at Chatham Dress Sewing Factory, material handler at Solomon's Drug Warehouse, and a stock clerk at Kroger. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her neighbors. She also enjoyed being a dog mom, spending all the time she could with her animals.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Sheppard. Survivors include her children, Ronnie (Dee) Sheppard, Sissy (Neal) Hall, and Lynn (Ken) Morgan; nine grandchildren, Joseph, James, Michael, Ashley, Kristy, Brittany, Brianne, Chase, and Catie; and numerous great-grandchildren.
