After a life of love and quiet grace, Patricia D. Cheney, 93, of Danville, IL, IL has passed.
A life remembered begins, simply, with the telling.
The story begins in 1933, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.
Patricia held deeply to the Methodist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Some find their compass in faith. Patricia was among them.
Danville – Patricia Delores Cheney, 93, of Danville, passed away at 10:05 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born on March 22, 1933, in Danville to Leo and Frances (Stimac) Goodner. She married her beloved husband of nearly 75 years, Richard A. Cheney, on May 12, 1951. He survives.Also surviving are two children, Michael (Lorilee) Cheney and Victoria Barnes; two grandchildren, Dawn (Jason) Lawson and Benjamin Cheney; three great grandchildren, Emmit (Emily) Felix, Mason (Ansley) Felix, and Brayden Luke Cheney; and a great-great grandson, Nathaniel Felix.She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Goodner.Patricia was a talented seamstress whose passion for creating clothing led her to open the Thimble Full fabric shop in Danville. Along with her business partner, Maxine Waggoner, she would travel to New York and Chicago to acquire unique and distinct limited print fabrics from top designers to offer her customers. Later, Patricia was a realtor for George Weller & Associates. For several years she would go to the Northeast Elementary School to read to the children. In addition to being a long time member of St. James Church in Danville, she was also active in several community organizations such as the The Camila Study Group of the Danville Garden Club, the Junior Women's Club, and the Old Town Preservation Association. Through these and other social activities, Patricia and Richard made many dear friends who they enjoyed spending time with.A service to celebrate the life of Patricia Cheney will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 with a Memorial Service starting at 11:00. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville prior to services. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N.
