Robert held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Robert Lee “Bob” Burns, 82, of Stonefort, passed away on May 4, 2026, at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center, offering what many would see as the ultimate anniversary gift—reuniting with his beloved wife on their wedding anniversary.Bob was born on February 24, 1943, in Dykersburg, Illinois, the son of Ralph Burns and Marguerite (Hutson) Burns. He married the love of his life, Rosemary Groves, on May 4, 1974. They shared many years together until her passing in 2017.He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, Bob dedicated over 30 years as a groundskeeper with the Physical Plant at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he took great pride in his work.Bob found joy in the simple things—woodworking, fishing local waters, and deer hunting. He was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church in Marion and valued his faith and community.He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Beth Burns; his grandchildren, Hunter and Lilly; and several cousins who will cherish his memory.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary; his parents; one brother; and one sister.Services were entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Blue Funeral Home, located at 1704 North Court Street in Marion. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.
