With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Ruth Arlene Meyers of Chesapeake, VA.
Here is the shape of a life remembered with love.
Ruth held deeply to the Methodist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
A life of belief is a life of quiet conversation with something larger.
Ruth Arlene Meyers, age 92, of Chesapeake, VA passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at Chesapeake Regional Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Robertson.
Ruth was a woman of spirit and strength. Alongside her devoted husband, August "Augie" Meyers, she raised four independent daughters, instilling in them a deep commitment to family and the value of helping others within the community.
A joyful traveler and sailor, Ruth embraced adventure. She was equally at home around her dining room table, the heart of the household, always filled with food, laughter, and the people she loved. She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, exercising in her pool, working her daily crossword puzzle, and watching Jeopardy. Ruth was a dedicated member of her church communities and spent more than 20 years at North Raleigh United Methodist Church where she participated in JOY (Just Older Youth), Bible group, and volunteered at the food bank. She will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, August Meyers; beloved daughter, Pamela Sheehan; and three brothers, Robert, Norman, and Donald Robertson.
Her memory will be cherished by her surviving family: daughters, Beth Hutchins of Spokane, WA; Martha (James) Lee of Arapahoe, NC; Jacalyn (Lance) Lundquist of Chesapeake, VA; and her adopted daughter, Susan Davies of Lancashire, England. She also leaves behind her sister, Barbara Grzeczka of Weirton, WV; son-in-law, Dennis Sheehan of Carrboro, NC; nine grandchildren, Martha (Stephen) Self, Harry (Lily) Hutchins, August (Amy) Hutchins, Kelsey Sheehan, Devin Sheehan, Adam (Carl) Lundquist, Jessica (Sean) Kirkpatrick, Christopher (Ashley) Lundquist, and Marissa (David) Lee; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ruth's life will be held in Raleigh, NC, at a later date. Following the service, Ruth and Augie will be interred together at Raleigh Memorial Park.
