Robert Wayne Carlyle of Moore County, NC has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

Robert Wayne Carlyle, a cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Moore County, North Carolina, at the age of 78. Born on July 29, 1947, in Lee County, North Carolina, Robert spent his formative years and much of his life in Moore County, where he was known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family and faith.
Robert dedicated his professional life to working as a Bulk Truck Driver for a gas company, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. Outside of his career, he was a man of diverse interests and passions. An outgoing and friendly soul, Robert was particularly fond of vegetable gardening, earning the affectionate moniker "Tomato Man" around town for his habit of generously sharing his bountiful harvests with others. His love for fishing provided him a peaceful retreat, while holidays and family events were occasions he cherished dearly.
A devout student of the Bible, Robert found joy and solace in reading and studying its teachings, which guided him throughout his life.
Robert is preceded in death by his father HC Carlyle, mother Dorothy Bennett Carlyle, brothers Donald Carlyle and Ray Carlyle, and brother-in-law Johnny Meggs. He leaves behind a loving family, including his son Aaron Carlyle, sisters Barbara Meggs and Martha Cagle (alongside her husband Steve), brother Mike Carlyle, five beloved nephews and nieces, and eleven great-nephews and nieces, all of whom will continue to cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life service honoring Robert will be held at White Hill Presbyterian, located at 3335 White Hill, Sanford, NC 27332. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, with a service to follow at 2:00 PM.
