Samantha Denise Tunstall of West Point, VA has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.
A life is more than dates on a stone; here is a small portion of her story.
Memory has a way of softening time.
Samantha Denise Tunstall, 60, of West Point, Virginia, formerly of New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27, 2026. She was the daughter of the late James and Louise Tunstall.
Affectionately known as "Sam," she was born and raised in Irvington, New Jersey, and graduated from the former Frank H. Morrell High School, now Irvington High School. Sam was known for her strong work ethic and dedication-she approached every job with determination and gave it her all.
When she wasn't working, Sam enjoyed being around her friends, laughing, and having a good time. She might have seemed a little reserved at first but give her some good music and she'd be out on the floor, ready to dance the night away. She was also a loyal Philadelphia Eagles fan who loved watching the games and could "talk smack" right along with the best of them. Sam also had a creative side and found joy in knitting, often making beautiful blankets to share with family and friends.
Her greatest joy in life was being "Nana" to her beloved grandson, Karter. The two shared a special and inseparable bond, taking daily walks and "patrolling" the neighborhood together. Sam delighted in spoiling Karter and would do anything to see him smile and laugh.
Sam will be remembered for her quiet strength, her sense of fun, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Louise Tunstall; sister, Ellen Tunstall, and brother, Terry Tunstall.
Sam is survived by her son, Isiah Tunstall (Taty); grandson, Karter; sister-in-law, Tonya Guilford; niece, Taylor Tunstall; loving cousins, April Byrd, Shantae Byrd, Ayehsa Byrd, Jasmine Byrd, Tyree Pinion and Darnell Pinion; her dear friends, Ms. Marie, Ms. Rita, and Ms. Faye, along with other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 6PM Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181. A viewing will be held 2 hours prior to services. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations/contributions can be made to Vincent Funeral Home.
