Tennessee Tennie "Tennie" Meade of Pikeville, KY has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.
What follows is a brief look at the life her family wishes to share.
Tennessee held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Faith is a quiet companion through a long life. Tennessee's walked beside her.
Tennessee "Tennie" Meade, age 84 of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at her home.
She was a retired custodian for the Kentucky State Highway Department and a member of the Owsley Free Will Baptist Church since 2000.
Tennie was born at Beaver, Kentucky on July 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Adkins and Mary Liza Stevens Adkins.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Homer Meade on March 10, 2002, a granddaughter, Courtney Meade, and her brothers and sister, Liburn Adkins, Henry Adkins, Rufus Adkins, Shirley Adkins, Cressie Garrison and Grover Cleveland Adkins Jr.
She is survived by her son, Johnny Preston Meade and daughter, Valery Lynn Madden (Steve) both of Pikeville, Kentucky.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Janel Eplin, Eric Madden, Sierra Bartley, Cheyenne Meade, Dakota Meade and Austin Eplin; nine great-grandchildren, Brayden, Cason, Presley, Paisley, Lincoln, Cash, Oakley, Blaze and Isabella and two special friends, Madge Hall and Mike May.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with evening services at 7:00 p.m.
Also Visitation will be Saturday, May 9, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with evening services at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Compton Cemetery at Gap Branch, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Honoring Tennie by serving as Pallbearers will be Steve Madden, Austin Eplin, Gary Adkins, Janel Eplin, Lincoln Eplin and Mike May.
