Theodore "Ted" Steichen of Vadnais Heights, MN has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

What follows is not the whole story, but a thread of it.

Theodore held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Belief, when lived, becomes a kind of inheritance.

Age 91, passed away peacefully from natural causes, surrounded by family on May 3rd.Preceded in death by parents Theodore B., and Catherine Steichen, and infant daughter.Survived by loving wife of 67 years Pat, children John (Diane), Jimmy (Tammy), Mary Beth (Fred) Zappa. Grandchildren Sean (Stacy) Steichen, Megan (Chris) Gatziolis, Brenna Steichen, Calleigh Steichen (Eli May) Kelsie (Jason) Thorp, Jackie (Joe) Dittrich, Anthony (Erin) Zappa, Nick (Alexis) Zappa, 9 great grandchildren, and baby Teddy due in September. Sister Mary Ann (Frank) Petron, nephew Theo (Melissa) Petron, niece Kathy Petron.Ted was born in St. Paul MN on 8.22.34, attended St. Agnes Schools (Proud 13 Year Aggie), and Hamline University. He spent many years in business with his father, and owned Steichen’s Sporting Goods for over 45 years. Ted cherished his time with the St. Paul Winter Carnival, and the lifetime friendships created, first as the North Wind Prince in 1984, and then becoming King Boreas LI in 1987. Servicing the St. Paul youth sports community was an essential part of Ted’s never-ending dedication to St. Paul. This was supported by his induction to the Mancini’s Hall of Fame, Catholic Athletic Association Hall of Fame, and St. Agnes High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Ted’s life was deeply rooted in faith and family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Visitation at Bradshaw, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear on Sunday, May 10, 2026 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. and 1hour prior to funeral. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, May 11, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4741 Bald Eagle Avenue, White Bear Lake. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Agnes Schools, or charity of your choice.
