Carol D. Wilkins, born April 29, 1940, in Denver, Colorado, passed away on April 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, perseverance, community service, and trailblazing achievement. The youngest of five children born to the late John E. Mitchell and Leona Mitchell, Carol grew up in a close-knit family where she learned the values of hard work, compassion, and resilience—qualities that guided her throughout her remarkable life.Carol began her professional journey working in circuit card assembly, where her talent and leadership quickly became evident. Through determination and excellence, she achieved a historic milestone: becoming the first Black female supervisor at Honeywell T.I.D. Her groundbreaking accomplishment opened doors for others and stands as a testament to her strength, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to excellence. She proudly served Honeywell for over 25 years, earning the respect of colleagues and leaving an enduring mark on the company and the many people she mentored.In addition to her professional accomplishments, Carol was a published author of poetry, with her work recognized and published by the International Society of Poets. Her writing reflected her deep faith, her wisdom, and her ability to find beauty and meaning in life’s journey. Her words brought comfort, hope, and inspiration to many.Beyond her achievements, Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She married the love of her life, James C. Wilkins, Sr., and together they shared 38 years of devotion, partnership, and unwavering support. Carol was a loving mother to James C. Wilkins, Jr., Zenobia Wilkins, and her adopted daughter Lynn Porter, Three grandchildren Brandon, Kandace and Arnold., nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors, many of whom she prayed for daily. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her beloved daughter Zenobia, who now welcome her home.Carol’s dedication to service extended into her community. She served as a volunteer liaison for King Baptist Church, supporting programs that uplifted and strengthened those around her. She was elected as a Commission Member of Cultural Affairs for the City of Aurora, where she advocated for representation, inclusion, and cultural enrichment. Later, she ran for Aurora City Council At Large, finishing a strong third behind two incumbents, an achievement that reflected her integrity, leadership, and the deep respect she earned from her community.,Carol will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, her fierce love for her family, and her lifelong commitment to lifting others up.
