George held deeply to the Methodist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Faith gave George a place to stand, and a place to return to.

George Fowler, a devoted family man, passionate sports enthusiast, and steadfast community member, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at his residence in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on May 19, 1944, in York, Alabama to the parents, Nelson Sr., and Maggie Fowler, George's life journey was marked by dedication, love, and a deep commitment to those around him.A 1962 graduate of Mobile County High School, George furthered his education at the Nashville School of Business, equipping himself with the knowledge and skills that would serve him throughout his career. In 1964, he began his professional journey with North Carolina Life Insurance Company. His career saw significant growth when he joined United Parcel Service, where he served as a Center Manager from 1969 until his retirement in 1986. His work ethic and leadership left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.George's heart beat strongest for his family and his passions. A loving husband to Mary L. Fowler, they shared a life enriched by their children: Lisa Matchem (DJ), Yolanda Fowler, LaToya Stone, and Ashli Leavell (Martelle), Donnie Coleman (Glendora), Marius Dismukes (Jamie), and Shamont Fowler. He was also a proud sibling to Nelson Fowler (Genice), Lora Haston (LeBaron), Brenda Ford (Ronnie), Phillip Fowler (Camille), and maintained close ties with his brother-in-law Earnest Hicks and sister-in-law, Olivia Brown, brother-in-law, Phillip Williams. Though his sister Carolyn Williams  has passed before him, her memory remained dear to him. George was blessed with 12 grandchildren, though he bore the sorrow of losing Tre’ Lawrence, and was a beloved great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren, leaving behind a rich legacy of family love and connection.George found joy and relaxation in the world of sports. An avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee State football, he was a steadfast season ticket holder for many years. His love for golf and football reflected his energetic spirit and his zest for camaraderie and friendly competition.Among his proudest accomplishments was his marriage to Virginia Menzies, which brought forth three daughters, and later, his marriage in 1980 to Mary Babb, with whom he had another child. These unions underscored the foundation of his greatest achievements – the love and nurturing of his family.Services to honor George’s life will be held at Mt Pisgah United Methodist Church, located at 6245 Mt Pisgah Road, Nashville, TN 37211. The visitation will take place on May 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 12:30 p.m.  George Fowler’s life was a testament to perseverance, love, and the quiet strength found in everyday dedication. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
