Some lives speak quietly; her is one such story.
Joan held deeply to the Presbyterian faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Faith gave Joan a place to stand, and a place to return to.
Joan Louise Chadima, 86, passed away on Friday, April 24 at CountryHouse Residence in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday May 1, 2026, until the11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joan was the daughter of Laurena Slach Nagel and Lloyd F. Nagel. She graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids, where she met her husband, Warren. They wed on July 15, 1961, and were married for 61 years.
Joan graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Home Economics. She was a pastel artist and active in many organizations, including Creative Artists Iowa, the Iowa Pastel Society, and the Amana Arts Guild, as well as the Junior League of Cedar Rapids, the Cedar Rapids Dental Auxiliary, and PEO, FO chapter. She loved to travel, and spending time with friends and family was very important to her.
Joan is survived by her sister Sandra Kemp of Greenville, SC; her daughter Laura Chadima-Beer (Jeff Beer) of Cedar Rapids; daughter Ann Charles (Brian) of St. Charles, IL; and grandchildren Kay White (Jared); Lauren Beer, Jack Charles and Emily Charles.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Amana Arts Guild and the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library.
