Jacob Andrew Conklin of Surprise, AZ has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

A life remembered begins, simply, with the telling.

Jacob spent his working life as ['me was Jake', 'IT Engineer'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

There is no greater gift than the one a parent gives by simply being present.

Jacob "Jake" Andrew Conklin, 38, passed away suddenly at his home in Surprise, Arizona, on April 27, 2026. He was a devoted father, a loyal son, and a dedicated brother; a kind soul with a rare, tender strength and an effortless ability to bring people together.

He was born December 7, 1987, to Lynn and Phil Conklin of Orcutt, California. Jake grew up in Orcutt and attended St. Joseph High School, where he built many lifelong friendships. He continued his education at Arizona State University and went on to have a successful career as an IT Engineer, working remotely for Cantey Tech in South Carolina for over six years.

Jake was known for his skill, dependability, and the respect he earned from colleagues. As his manager shared, "If everyone that worked for me was Jake, I'd have nothing to do."

Jake will be remembered for his calm, quiet sense of humor, his steady presence, and his selflessness, which left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had a deep love for animals and admired those who dedicated their lives to protecting them. He enjoyed hiking and biking with his dog, surfing, and playing golf.

He brought joy to family gatherings, from his friendly competitiveness at cornhole to his memorable BBQ. We were all so lucky and honored to share in his life. There will always be an empty place in our hearts.

Above all, he loved his two children, Reid and Riley Conklin, who were the center of his life.

Jake was an adoring grandson to his late grandparents, Jim and Kathleen Gisler. He is survived by his parents; his two children; his brother, Phillip; his twin sister, Jenelle; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jake's passing is a profound loss, especially at such a young age. He made life lighter for all of us, and we will forever carry him in our hearts.

"What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us."

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Chapel at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Camarillo, California, on May 15 at 9:00 a.m.

A private family burial will follow.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held at Jake's Aunt Ann and Uncle Cameron's home after the service.

In memory of Jake, donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA): https://secure.aspca.org.
