It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Raymond Michael "Mickey" Baker Sr. of Surprise, AZ — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
What remains is memory — and the gratitude of those he loved.
What we carry forward is the light others gave us.
Raymond "Mickey" Michael Baker, Sr., who was born on August 20, 1940, in Idamay, West Virginia, passed away on April 27, 2026, in Surprise, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and a life well lived.
He spent 39 years serving as a Maintenance Foreman, a role he approached with pride and dedication. Beyond his career, he also trained dogs and had a deep love for animals, reflecting the patience, care, and kindness that were such important parts of who he was.
Raymond was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed painting and had an extraordinary gift for creating beauty in whatever captured his attention. He was curious by nature and found joy in anything that sparked his interest. He loved being outdoors and could often be found going for walks, appreciating the simple peace of fresh air. He also enjoyed going to pow wows and listening to Indian music, experiences that brought him happiness and connected him to the rhythms and traditions he admired.
Family was at the center of Raymond's life. He always spent the holidays with his loved ones and treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he wore the name Papa proudly. The memories he created with his family will remain a lasting source of strength and comfort.
Raymond is preceded by his long longtime partner, Mae Eaves; son, Raymond Michael Baker, Jr.; great grandson, Patrick Kellow; and two brothers, Robert Baker and Ronald Baker.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Cindy (Peter) Nguyen; son, John (Amber) Baker; sister, Sandra Shannon; eight grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
