James Steven Lyons of Clearfield, UT, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Below, the simplest tribute: the truth of a life as it was lived.

Some legacies are not written; they walk the earth, named after those who came before.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a man larger than life, James Steven Lyons, who left us on April 30th, 2026, in Uintah County, Utah. James “Jim” was born on September 10th, 1970, in Long Beach, California, to Debra Ann Gillis Lyons and William Thomas Lyons Jr.Jim is survived by his family that he loved more than anything including; his five children, Riley Lyons, Jacy (Ida) Lyons, Kixx Lyons, Haylee Lyons, Kalli (Logan) Turner; his grandchildren, Renley Lyons and Paisley Lyons; his mother, Debra Ann Lyons-Olsen, sister Jennifer (Bryon) Gravley, half-sister Veronica Lyons Harvey, many nephews and nieces; partner Carrie Crozier and stepfather Doug (Donna) Roberts. He was preceded in death by grandparents whom he loved and cherished.Jim spent most of his school years in Kanab, Utah. There he enjoyed the freedom of small-town living. He was a star athlete on the basketball court, track and field, as well as the football field. He had a love for the slopes and later taught his children to ski. After graduating from Kanab High School, he attended Weber State University for a time and then called several cities in Utah his home.Jim was full of passion. Lived to have fun. Known for surprise stunts, mostly surrounded by water. He lived with laughter and made sure everyone was included in the joy and play. His loud spirited energy was contagious to be around. The water was Jim’s home, and he loved sharing his sacred places like Lake Mead, Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, and Pineview with people he knew and loved and people he didn’t know. He loved introducing people to the water, and the things he loved to do, he would openly share with others.Jim worked hard with what he did and enjoyed many hobbies in his later years. Some were horseback riding, playing softball, water skiing and being on the water. Often Cooking outside, camping, and traveling with loved ones.Jim loved deer hunting, training all his kids around guns from a young age; he loved being in the mountains, always happiest around a campfire surrounded by loved ones telling stories.A born athlete, Jim earned multiple awards for his remarkable athleticism throughout his life. He carried on playing his favorite sports throughout his entire life, and he passed on his knowledge of his favorite sports like baseball, basketball, and football by coaching multiple teams his kids played on throughout their life. ALWAYS in support of playing like it was the last play of the game.Among Jim’s upstanding character, some values he held in extreme importance were sticking up for the underdog, or underprivileged people. Jim would stand up for those less fortunate than himself and always supported his kids and family doing the same. Jim knew the importance of integrity and would often ponder what integrity was with his kids as they grew up into adulthood.Jim was committed to his work; he did a variety of work in his life the most of which revolved around trucks, semi-trucks, trucking, and fuel transportation and distribution. Jim was well known in his field for his ability to track patterns and make predictions including precise amounts of various fuels, keeping a spreadsheet of information inside his head, he thrived in a busy, bustling environment, making friends with customers and talking to many people often every day. Jim loved being part of a team. He was a natural leader, a hard worker, smart, and dedicated to the work he did. He loved to work, and overseeing multiple moving parts was his specialty.Among his greatest loves in life, nothing compared to the love he had for family. Jims greatest joys in life, was being together with his five kids, and being a grandpa.A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Aaron’s Mortuary, 1050 South State St. Clearfield, Utah 84015. There will be a visitation starting at 11 am and the service will follow at 1130 am.The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all who aided in the search for Jim, the prayers offered on his and the family’s behalf, the kind words spoken and all the compassion that was shared. Thank you.Cremation arrangements were made with Aaron’s Mortuary
