Karl Joseph Abele passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2026, with his family at his bedside. He was born October 27, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Karl was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Hilda Moran Abele, the love of his life. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Abele Monett, Linda Abele Long (Mike), and Shirley Abele Broussard, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Abele Dodds.
Karl was the son of Otto Karl Abele Jr. and Margaret Morris Abele, both deceased. He earned bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Orleans and enjoyed a long career as an engineer with Texaco before retiring more than 20 years ago. Karl was known for his sharp mind, quiet nature, and steady presence. He and Hilda shared a love of travel and spent many years exploring Guatemala, Europe, and destinations across the United States together. Karl was also an accomplished water skier and enjoyed an active life outdoors.
Karl will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his lifelong love for Hilda, and the many memories shared with relatives and friends over the years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M., followed by the Funeral Mass at 12:00 P.M.
