It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Marie Shirley Perrone of New Orleans, LA — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

What follows is a brief look at the life her family wishes to share.

Marie held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

The traditions Marie loved will continue to hold those she loved.

Marie Shirley Brown Perrone, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at her home in Metairie, Louisiana. Born on April 27, 1931, in Raceland, Louisiana, she lived a long and meaningful life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew her.

She was a native of Lafourche Parish and had been a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, since 1948. Marie was a graduate of Raceland High School and later devoted many years of service to New Orleans Public Service Inc., now Entergy, where she worked for 28 years before continuing for an additional 7 years part-time as an executive assistant. Her strong work ethic, reliability, and gracious manner earned the respect of her colleagues and reflected the same care she brought to every part of her life.

Marie was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church since its inception. Her commitment to her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she served her church community with quiet dedication. She also served as an Area Block Couple Coordinator, offering her time and energy in support of others. Marie was known for being extremely kind, loving, welcoming, and generous, and she was loved by everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.

She found great joy in simple pleasures and cherished the moments that brought laughter and comfort. She thoroughly enjoyed watching The Golden Girls, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved doing word puzzles and was especially good at them. Most of all, Marie treasured time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids, who brought her immense happiness and pride throughout her later years.

Marie is survived by her sons, Kenneth G. Perrone and his wife Lisa, and David A. Perrone and his wife Sonia, both of Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Perrone, Jonathan Perrone, Alyssa Perrone, Kristen Scott and her husband Thomas, and Chelsea Brooks and her husband Lucas, as well as her great-grandchildren, Hudson, Addison, Dawson, Emerson, and Bailey. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald Brown, Michael Brown, Raymond Brown, and Joseph Brown.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel A. Perrone; her parents, Joseph Brown and Loridea Folse Brown; and her siblings, Alice Mae Suhre, Mabel Foret, Norman Brown, Janice LeJuene, Gerald Brown, and Norris Brown.

Marie Shirley Brown Perrone will be remembered for her loving heart, her kind and generous nature, and the warmth she shared so freely with family, friends, and her church community. Her life was a beautiful example of faith, devotion, and unconditional love, and her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 9, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr., Metairie, LA 70002 with visitation from 10:30 AM until service time. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to invite those attending to a Reception after the burial being hosted at the Greenwood Funeral Home Boulevard Room at 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
