Mrs. Ora Walker of Kansas City, MO, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.
A life remembered begins, simply, with the telling.
Mrs. held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
The community of faith holds its own well — and Mrs. was held.
Ora Lee Walker was born on June 11, 1934, in Ozan, Arkansas, to the beautiful union of Shirley Johnson Sr. and Versie (Nelson) Johnson. Ora was the second child born out of 14 children. On May 2, 2026, she was called to rest.
Ora was educated in Claw, Arkansas, at Claw Training School and graduated in 1952. Eventually she moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she met and married the love of her life, Booker T. Walker. Ora and Booker were married on August 22, 1954, and remained married for 71 years. In this union they lovingly raised two children, Booker T. Walker Jr. and Sandra Walker.
Ora attended Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a charter member and dedicated worker. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, where she touched the hearts of numerous children. She also played the piano for the Sunday School. Ora sang in the choir and held the Vice President position for many years.
Ora belonged to a small singing gospel group that was formed with members of her church. They called the group The Spiritual 4. She was so proud of this group and the fact that they handmade all of their matching outfits.
Ora served on the Deaconess Board for several years and was the Sergeant at Arms until her death. She was an active member of the Palestine Neighborhood Association, where she worked along with others to improve the neighborhood development where she lived. She also sewed lovely handmade quilts and gave them away. They all were so beautiful.
Ora enjoyed raising her two children, teaching her Sunday School children, playing her piano, singing, listening to gospel music, sewing, volunteering at schools, cooking for her grandkids, and playing with her grandkids and great-great grandkids.
Ora was an excellent mother who loved her family, but most of all she loved the Lord.
Ora Lee Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Johnson Sr. and Versie (Nelson) Johnson; and siblings: A.D. Johnson (Ozan, Arkansas), Glen Johnson (Ozan, Arkansas), Frances Ruth Jordan (Ozan, Arkansas), Shirley Johnson Jr. (Kansas City, MO), Louise Sampson (Flint, Michigan), and Alzean Stewart (Ozan, Arkansas).
She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband of 71 years, Booker T. Walker Sr.; children, Booker T. Walker Jr. and Sandra Walker High (Anthony); grandchildren, Ivan Walker (Ceciley) (Kansas City, MO), Anthony High Jr. (Nia) (Kansas City, MO), and Brittany High (Arlington, Texas); great-grandchildren, Israel (Izzy) High, Mars Walker, and Josiah High; siblings, Mae Ellen Mixon (Ozan, Arkansas), Glenda Faye Stewart (McCaskill, Arkansas), Bernadette Taylor (Ozan, Arkansas), Talmage Johnson (Alma) (Flushing, Michigan), Odell Johnson (Ozan, Arkansas), Larry (Marcia) Johnson (Ozan, Arkansas), and Rev. Raymond Johnson (Flint, Michigan); a special sister-in-law, Joella Johnson (Kansas City, MO); her wonderful church members; and a host of family and friends.
