It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Dora McMillan of Youngstown, OH — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Here is a glimpse of the life she lived, in her family's own remembrance.

The ordinary days are often the ones we miss most.

On May 01, 2026, Dora Lee McMillan, a faithful follower of Jesus, was led into his loving presence with Grace at her home. Born on March 21, 1941, in Drewry, Alabama to the late John McMillan Sr and Rosa Norman. She was educated at Ransom High School in Alabama.

Dora loved animals and the outdoors and had a green thumb for growing plants. She enjoyed giving back to others through her volunteering in her community and spending time with her "SOFA" group (Seniors Out For Action). Not one to sit idly at home, she was fond of traveling with family and friends and loved visits to the Amish stores in Geauga County! When at home, Dora enjoyed watching Gunsmoke, Bill Winston, 911 and she loved listening to Shirley Caesar, the Williams Brothers, and spiritual hymns. But her favorite pastime was always reading her Bible and praying for others and circumstances in the world.

Dora demonstrated her dedication, compassion, and integrity in all projects she set out to accomplish. She worked as a home health aide for years at Park Vista/Senior Independence and nurtured families while caring for their homes.

Left to cherish her memory and legacy are her son, Melvin McMillan Sr and her daughter and caregiver, Cosetta J. McMillan and her brother Jerry McMillan of CA; grandchildren, Monika Broomfield and Andrae LaShawn Maxwell , who she helped raise, Korey Christopher McMillan, Krystal Shaylynn McMillan, Melvin "Man" McMillan Jr, Terrance D. Rutledge, Junell Lynn Rutledge, Byron Jones, great-granddaughter, Shawnique Lynn Broomfield and great-great-grandson, Kyier Simpson and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers: Willie Albert McMillian, John McMillan Jr, Henry James McMillon, sisters, Reatha M. McKnight, Lillie Broughton, Luverne McMillon, daughter Linda Lee Broomfield Maxwell Green and her great granddaughter, LaTysha Denise Jackson.

Her family would like to thank Fresenius Kidney Care Staff in Corners burg, The Kidney Group, The Oncology and Palliative Care Departments at Mercy Health, Mercy Health Hospice of the Valley Hospice House by Compassus, Mercy Health Home Health by Compassus, Dr. Mark Memo and Dr. Thomas Kunkle for their kind, professional and compassionate care.

A Celebration of Dora's Life will be announced at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers in Dora's memory, please donate your time and heart to reaching out and teaching upcoming generations about legacies and skills lost and the importance of forgiveness and the practice of kindness and selflessness.

Dora was laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
