It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Gerald William Gowers Jr. of Evansville, IN — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
Here is what mattered, in the years between the dates.
The years gathered, as years do, into a life.
Gerald William Gowers Jr., age 60, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on April 22, 2026. He was born on July 26, 1965, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by kindness, loyalty, and a generous spirit that touched the hearts of many.
Gerald was a graduate of Heritage Hills High School and carried the values of hard work and perseverance with him throughout his life. He was known by those who loved him as a gentle and loving man who met others with warmth and sincerity. His presence brought comfort and steadiness to those around him, and he will be remembered for the quiet strength he showed in everyday life.
He had a deep love for race cars and motorcycles, and he especially enjoyed working on them. Whether he was spending time in the garage or out on the open road, Gerald found joy in the sound of engines and the satisfaction of hands-on work. He owned a Harley and was proud of it, and his connection to motorcycles was more than a hobby. It was a part of who he was and a source of happiness throughout his life.
Gerald was also a member of the ABATE motorcycle group, where he shared in the fellowship and camaraderie that came with a common passion. He valued the friendships and bonds formed through that association and appreciated being part of a community that reflected his interests and spirit. Those who knew him through this group and through life in general will remember his easygoing nature and the respect he showed to others.
Above all, Gerald will be remembered for his huge heart. He helped everyone, even when he had nothing to give, and he did so without seeking recognition. His generosity was not measured by material things, but by the sincerity of his actions and the compassion he extended to others. He had a way of making people feel seen, supported, and cared for, and that gift will remain in the memories of those whose lives he touched.
Gerald is survived by his brothers, Jimmy Street, and William Gowers "Uncle that Gary claimed as his brother", and his sisters, Patricia Gaddis and Teresa Lutz, Frances Traughber. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Lue and Gerald Gowers, and by his brother, Edward Street. His family will forever hold close the love, laughter, and memories they shared with him.
Though his earthly journey has ended, Gerald's legacy of love, gentleness, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We want to give thanks to Heart to Heart, especially Ashleigh.
