It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Lauro P. Salaiz of Corpus Christi, TX — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
Below, a small portrait of a life that will not soon be forgotten.

Lauro P. Salaiz, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at his home. Born on August 18, 1935, to Gabriel Salaiz and Concepcion Palacios. Lauro was a dedicated and hardworking employee of The Port of Corpus Christi for 30 years. Outside of work, he had many interests; he found peace playing his guitar, solving geometry problems, and spending time with his friends at the local Whataburger drinking coffee. He cherished his daily walks along the Corpus Christi Downtown Seawall, he enjoyed being outside working on the yard or doing DIY jobs around the house, but his greatest joy was always the time spent with his family.
Lauro is preceded in death by his father, mother and his siblings: Gabriel Salaiz, Roberto Salaiz.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Edith N. Salais, and their children: Laura E. Salais, Gabriel R. Salais, Cecilia S. Macdermott, and Lauro A. Salais. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Angelique Salais, Grace Macdermott, Gabriel Macdermott, and Kaleb Salais; his great-grandchildren: Jocelyn Alaniz, Elianna Alaniz, and Coahutemoc Alaniz; and his sister Julia Bernal.
He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His kindness and loyalty will live in the hearts of those who knew him. Lauro will be remembered as a quiet man of deep faith, resilient in trials and adversities, and possessing an unwavering devotion to his family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial service to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery at 11:30 am
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Erik Paredez, Oscar Saenz, Roman Saenz, Cuahtemoc Alaniz, Raul C Garcia Jr., and Manuel Ramirez.
