It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Lola Mae Sauls of Cedar Hill, TX — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
The following words honor a life that mattered to many.
The hands that raised children leave fingerprints on the future.
Lola Mae Sauls
July 22, 1939 – May 2, 2026
Lola was born at home in Commerce, TX. She was the daughter of Arthur Luman and Lottie Wiedoff.
Lola met her husband, Edward J. Sauls, at Gospel Lighthouse Church where they married and remained members for 60 years.
Lola was a loving, caring, devoted and supportive wife to her husband Edward for 60 years. She was a homemaker and poured into and laid a strong Christian foundation for her children, Judy, Norman and Gayla. Over the years Lola worked for Kress's, World Missions, Pillowtex and Gospel Lighthouse Church. When Gayla was two, Lola began teaching the 2–3-year-olds in Sunday School and continued for 20 years. Lola and Ed also cooked for many years Wednesday night meals for churchgoers at GLC.
Lola LOVED Jesus! She read the Bible through each year. It was central to who she was in everyday life. Gently, lovingly, quietly and peacefully, she managed the affairs of her household well. She loved to sew and cook and was excellent at both. Her biscuits were a hit and requested at about every meal. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and word search games. She enjoyed playing cards and working puzzles and never missed an opportunity to display her witty sense of humor. She knew the importance and value of having monthly family gatherings and welcomed everyone into her home enjoying fellowship with so many people. Lola and Ed loved to sing and listen to Gospel music and for years faithfully listened to Jimmy Swaggart.
Lola was a Godly woman and a true delight and joy to be with. She was a blessing from heaven. She was graceful in her suffering especially after the loss of her two youngest adult children, Gayla and Norman.
She leaves behind to hold dear and cherish her memory her daughter, Judy Carey and her husband Dennis Carey, and her sister, Martha McDonald.
She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Daniel Carey, Lauren Leiva, Christopher Sauls, Lyndsey Dunn, Brandyn Ward, Breann Ward, and Daniel Owens who blessed her with many great-grandchildren over the years; her heart was full.
Lola is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sauls; her brother, Loy Lee; sister, Peggy Jo; her son, Norman Lynn; and daughter, Gayla Ann.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at noon, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm at Jeter & Son Funeral Home - Cedar Hill Chapel, located at 332 Cedar Street, Cedar Hill, Texas 75104. She will be laid to rest at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville, Texas.
