After a life of love and quiet grace, Pauline Lyles of Cedar Hill, TX has passed.
Here is what mattered, in the years between the dates.
Pauline spent her working life as ['the culinary arts', 'the University Club after forty years of employment'] and held deeply to the Baptist faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.
Some find their compass in faith. Pauline was among them.
Pauline Laverne Robinson was born on January 15, 1934, and transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, April 23, 2026. She was born in Anderson County, Texas as the second child to F.S. and Pearlie Green Robertson, who preceded her in death. Pauline had one older sister, Jeweline Robinson (deceased), and six other younger siblings: Myrtle Robinson, Etta Robinson, F.S. Robertson Jr. (deceased), Willie T. Robertson, Dorothy Robertson, and Patricia Robertson.
Pauline's education began at Union Hope Elementary School, in a little three-room- schoolhouse that educated all the children in the local community. After completing Elementary, she attended Henry High School in Elkhart, Texas, where she graduated in May 1951. After moving to Denver in 1954, she attended what was then called finishing school at Barnes Business College in Denver, Colorado.
After graduation from High School, Pauline worked in a variety of Domestic Home Care positions: as a Babysitter, a Housekeeper, and a maid in Palestine and Dallas, Texas. She moved to Denver in 1954 as a babysitter for her Aunt Dorothy by day, while attending finishing school at Barnes Business College in the evenings. Pauline chose to work in the restaurant industry, which launched her career in the culinary arts. After stints in several restaurants, Pauline joined the staff of the downtown Denver University Club where she served as Pastry Chef, Salad Chef and Assistant to the Head Chef. She retired from the University Club after forty years of employment.
In Denver, Colorado, Pauline met and married Charles Earl Lyles on December 19, 1972. From this union Pauline was blessed with three stepchildren: Sharon Jackson, Charles Earl Lyles Jr. and Robert Lyles. They blessed her with many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Both Earl Lyles and Charles Earl Lyles Jr. preceded her in death.
Sis. Pauline began her Christian journey at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Elkhart, Texas under the Pastorate of Rev. A. E. Ealey, and continued that journey in Denver, Co., where she attended various Churches. In 1992, she united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in Denver, Colorado under the Pastorate of Rev. Paul Burleson. Pauline's final church membership was under watch care at Way of the Cross Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. T.A. Rhynes, Pastor.
Her early years in church provided Christian foundational training. She participated in a variety of Christian activities: Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, the Youth Choir, the Young Adult Baptist Training Union, Sunday School Congress competitions, Girls Church Quartet and Community choir. She began her career as an usher by serving as a member of the youth usher department in those early years and continued to serve as a gatekeeper and door opener in the house of the Lord until her health failed. She served as President of the Friendship Usher Board from 1997 to 2017. Pauline remained faithful in her commitment to her Pastor, church family, the Usher Board and, above all, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are: two stepchildren: Sharon Jackson (Charles); Robert Lyles (Janice); one brother, Willie Robertson (LaWanda); four sisters: Myrtle Robinson; Etta Robertson Wynn (Johnnie); Dorothy Robertson Lewis (Jeston) all of Dallas, TX., and Patricia Robertson Staten of Perris, CA.; two additional sisters-in-law: Loretta Robertson of Dallas, TX., and Catherine Lyles of New Boston, TX; three special cousins for whom she baby sat--the Knight girls: Carole Ann, Donna Kay, Elaine; and a God-son, Kyle Reese. Additionally, numerous step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who were adored by Pauline.
For this life, we can truly say: TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
