It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Maria Angela Acevedo of Freeport, TX — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

These pages are a small offering toward a much larger life.

A parent's life is measured, in part, by the lives she shaped.

Maria Angela Acevedo (née Villarreal), 73, passed away on April 28, 2026, peacefully at her daughter's home in Freeport, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones.

Maria was born on August 2, 1952, in Angleton, Texas. She was a woman whose greatest joy in life was her family. She didn't just love her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews-she lived for them. Her home was a place where memories were everywhere: walls filled with photos, laughter echoing through rooms, and a feeling that everyone who walked through her door belonged there.

To know Maria was to feel cared for. She had a quiet but steady way of making people feel important, remembered, and loved. Her family will always think of her when they see old photographs, hear familiar laughter, or gather together-because she is in all of those moments.

Maria is survived by her children: Marcus Villarreal, Jesus Villarreal, Maria Acevedo, Angela Nava, and her husband, Felipe Nava. She was a proud and loving grandmother to 16 grandchildren and a joyful great-grandmother to 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.

She is also survived by her siblings: Clara Zavala and husband Max, Nolberto Villarreal Jr., MaryAnn Ng and husband Wegin, Robert Villarreal and wife Nellie, Jesus Villarreal and wife Alejandra, Beatrice Villarreal, Carlos Villarreal and wife Wanda, Soila Gutierrez and husband Mauro, and Adela Villarreal. She also leaves behind 43 nieces and nephews who each held a special place in her heart.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Nolberto Villarreal and Marcelina Villarreal; her sister, Rosa Villarreal; her brothers, Johnny Villarreal, Joe Villarreal, Andrew Villarreal, and Manuel Villarreal; and her nephews, Robert Villarreal Jr., George Velez, and Jerrod Gutierrez.

Her family finds comfort in imagining her reunited with those who went before her, at peace and surrounded by love.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Villarreal, Ruben Velez, Isaiah Acevedo, Juan Rojo, Ismael Moreno, Jose Velez
