It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Ned Herron of Tooele, UT — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
These pages are a small offering toward a much larger life.
Ned held deeply to the Latter-day Saints faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
The traditions Ned loved will continue to hold those he loved.
Ned Leroy Herron, 85, was reunited with his beloved wife on April 29, 2026, in Tooele, Utah, just eight days after her passing.
He was born on April 30, 1940, in Tooele, Utah, to Elmer W. Herron and Margaret Alice Bates. The first five years of his life were spent on the Herron family farm in Erda, Utah. In adulthood, he purchased a small piece of that original farm, where he resided for the remainder of his life. Ned was the youngest of eleven children and was raised surrounded by a large and loving family.
Ned met the love of his life, Mary Esther Lowery, in April 1960. After a short courtship, they were married on December 2, 1960, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion that spanned 65 years.
Soon after their marriage, Ned was drafted into the United States Army and, following boot camp, was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. After completing his military service, he returned to Tooele, where he built a long and dedicated career at the Tooele Army Depot, working in various mechanical and technical positions.
Ned was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served faithfully in many callings. His favorite roles were his clerk positions, including stake financial clerk and ward membership clerk, though he also loved serving in the bishopric.
Known for his remarkable ability to fix anything, Ned continued working as a mechanic from his home after retirement. He took great pride in his yard and was well known for his beautifully maintained green lawn.
Ned and Mary lovingly adopted two children, Timothy Wayne and Jennifer Elizabeth, whom they cherished deeply.
He is survived by his children, Tim Herron (Loretta) and Jennifer Herron (David Kershaw); his grandchildren, Davee Sutton, Sage Herron (Danny Avalos), Steven Normand, Cody Normand (Lena), and Trentyn Pitt; and his great-grandchildren, Dyllan West (Jazmin Owen), Carter Vazquez (Jean Nicholes), Corbin Sutton, Hervé Normand, Vera Normand, and Mika Normand.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Esther Herron; his grandson, Kelvin West; his parents; and all ten of his siblings: Elaine (Conrad) Hancock, Baby Herron, Margaret (Wayne) Wineingar, Alexander (Jan) Herron, George (Lola) Herron, Blanche (Lloyd) Berry, Evelyn (John) Dreitzler, Kenneth (Beverly) Herron, Richard "Dick" (Carolyn) Herron, and Sarah "Sally" (Floyd) Moon.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lacey Cooper and Sarah Marshall; to Maddie, Barbara, Robert, Sarah, and Shuchen with Harmony Home Health; to the staff at Rocky Mountain Care and the University of Utah for their compassionate care; to Dr. Chandramouli and his dedicated team at Utah Cancer Specialists for their kindness and support; Bishop Spencer Park, Brother Jack Sullivan, Brother Brent Russon, Norma Worwood, Sister Julee Palmer, Margie Hooley and Cole, Mary, and Shirley with Tate Mortuary for all their assistance in this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 1pm, with a viewing prior from 11:30am to 12:45pm, at the LDS Chapel located at 323 East Erda Way, Erda, Utah. Interment in the Tooele City Cemetery.
For those unable to attend in person, the funeral will be live streamed on Ned's obituary page at tatemortuary.com
