It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Peter G Utphall of Minneapolis, MN — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.
These are some of the moments and memories that shaped his story.
Some bonds are not loosened by absence.
Peter Utphall, of Brooklyn Center and formerly of Northeast Minneapolis, passed away at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, and a lifetime of stories that he loved to share with everyone he met. Born in Downing, Wisconsin, Peter eventually moved to Northeast Minneapolis, the neighborhood that would shape much of his life. A proud graduate of the Edison High School Class of 1967, Peter remained deeply connected to his community throughout his years. From his time jumping out of perfectly good airplanes while serving his country, to his years exploring the United States as a driver for Gourmet Award Foods, Peter lived a life of movement and purpose. While later serving as a bus driver for Cambridge Schools, he remained the heart of the family embroidery business he started three decades ago-an endeavor he began alongside his mother, Jeri, and continued to pour his soul into with his wife, Denise, until his passing. Peter's commitment to others was further refl ected in his longtime membership with the Isanti and Northeast Lions Clubs. When he wasn't working, Peter was near the water or planning his next journey. An avid fi sherman and for many years was a prominent member of the Minnesota Bassmasters Association, he found his greatest peace with a lure in the water and passed the love for fi shing on to his daughter Sarah and her children. He was a true history buff, Minnesota Wild's #1 fan, and a lover of great adventures with his wife, Denise. He is preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Utphall (Bible), and his brother, Terry Utphall. He is survived by his loving wife, Denise; his daughters, Sarah Hickey (Utphall) and Laura Utphall; and his cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Genevieve, and Ryan. He also leaves behind his "bonus" granddaughters, Emmi and Asha, and his kitty cats, Dusty and Poppy. Peter lived a life as big as the stories he loved to tell. He was a good friend to all who knew him and will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched.
