After a life of love and quiet grace, Gilbert Duran Jr. of Dallas, TX has passed.

Below, a small portrait of a life that will not soon be forgotten.

The work of a parent is rarely finished — it lives on in the children he loved.

Gilbert Duran Jr., 60, passed away on May 4, 2026, in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Born on September 19, 1965, Gilbert spent his entire life in the city he loved, surrounded by the people who meant everything to him.

Gilbert was a devoted husband to Mary Elena Duran and a proud father to his six children: Vincent Duran, Christian Garcia, Julian Eleazar Hernandez, Felicia Vasquez, Hannah Duran, and Emerald Marie Garcia. His heart grew even fuller with the arrival of his 17 grandchildren, each one cherished deeply - especially his granddaughter Lily, with whom he shared a special and unbreakable bond.

He is survived by his father Gilbert Duran Sr., his brothers Benny and Alex Duran, and his sisters Yvonne Bernal, Lisa Treviño, and Patricia Duran. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Gonzales Duran.

Gilbert was known for his big heart, his generosity, and his belief that children always came before adults. He was a natural storyteller and a jokester who could light up any room. He found joy in simple moments - taking the kids to the zoo, the park, or anywhere laughter could follow.

A hardworking man, Gilbert took pride in working with his hands. He was skilled in upholstery and loved the satisfaction of cleaning and restoring cars. He enjoyed Tejano dancing, caring for his family, and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Gilbert lived with love, humor, and purpose. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the laughter he shared, and the family he protected and adored.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
