Celebrating A Life of Love, Strength, and Grace with hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Beatrice "Bea" Brooks, who transitioned peacefully on April 26, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on October 3, 1941, in Missouri to Emma Thatch (Perkins), Beatrice was the eldest of eleven children, a role she carried with strength, grace, and a deep sense of responsibility. She was raised with enduring values, a resilient spirit, and a steadfast faith that would guide her throughout her life. Shortly after completing high school, she relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she built a life centered around family, faith, and meaningful connection. Bea was the true embodiment of warmth. She was loving, caring, and effortlessly personable, with a spirit that drew people in and made them feel seen, valued, and at home. Whether through a kind word, a gentle presence, or her unwavering support, she had a gift for making others feel deeply loved. A woman of Holiness–Pentecostal faith, Beatrice believed in the power of prayer, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and living a life devoted to God. She carried herself with quiet strength and dignity, reflecting her faith through love, compassion, and service to others. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Demetrius Brooks; her mother, Emma Thatch (Perkins); one sister, Cannie Woods; and one brother, Gene Perkins. Beatrice leaves to cherish her legacy: her devoted children, Pennie V. (Jesse) Doyle of Chicago, Illinois, and Marcus D. Brooks of California; her treasured grandchildren, Austria L. Richardson, Maryana D. Brooks, Marcus D. Brooks Jr., and Amelia Brooks; her cherished great-grandchildren, Tony L. Richardson II and Isabella J. Fregoso; a special daughter, Jamesina Richardson and grandson, Gerald Richardson. Godchildren, Belinda Washington, Phyliss Coleman, Brashaunda Coleman, Leroy Washington, and Tequeria Barnet. her loving sister, Alice Perkins - Griffin; seven brothers, John Perkins, Stanley Perkins, Roy Lee Perkins, Rolla Perkins, Jeffrey Perkins, James Perkins, and Kent Perkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her presence. Bea's legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to family. As the eldest, she helped shape the foundation of a large and loving family, leaving behind a legacy that will continue for generations. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will live on in every life she touched and every memory shared.
