With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Jonathan N. Mechlin of Clinton, MA.

Here is the shape of a life remembered with love.

What Jonathan gave his children, they will give to theirs.

Jonathan Neil Mechlin of Clinton, Massachusetts and formerly Bolton, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Neal Mechlin (d. 2015) and Joan Boger Mechlin (d.2017) also of Bolton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Patricia (Pat ) Hall Mechlin; his cherished children Elena (Greg Giovinazzo), David, Ana (Trevor Peltak), and Neil (Heather Bowditch), eight treasured grandchildren Robert, Dominic and Patrick Giovinazzo, Luna and Ayden Mechlin, Elena and Jonathan Peltak , Lillian Mechlin and two siblings, David Mechlin (Skipwith Coale), Marcia Mechlin and their extended families.

Jon grew up in Bolton, attending Emerson School and graduating from Nashoba Regional High School in 1974.

He was raised by his parents with a strong sense of service to the family and to local and global communities. This included a strong involvement in Trinity Church, which was founded in part by his parents, and in its principles and missions. While still in his teens, Jon went on a mission to Haiti to aid impoverished youth. And after graduating from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, he served for two years in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica.

Entering his service in Costa Rica with no language skills, Jon quickly became highly fluent in Spanish and as such was selected to present his program's successes to the then President of Costa Rica. More importantly, his proficiency allowed him to become a respected instructor at the university where he met the beautiful and brilliant Patricia, who has never left his side since. Some of his last words to her were spoken in Spanish.

Jon continued to serve in Costa Rica the rest of his life, primarily by leading over 25 missions in service to the Roblealto Association for the Welfare of Children, a faith-based center serving vulnerable children, adolescents and families that is largely self-supported by its working livestock farms. The annual volunteer mission, organized and supported by Trinity Church, constructed and improved many of those farm facilities to further the Association's ability to support its community.

Jon's commitment to Trinity Church was lifelong and took many forms including serving as a Deacon. In addition to his role as a primary church leader in the Robleato Partnership he also developed a unique responsibility for all things relating to the Church and Parsonage's physical condition; when attention was required, Jon was always there.

Jon's chosen field of work further represented his commitment to service--building and improving custom built homes where families can grow and be part of flourishing local communities. Though the exact number is unknown, it is acknowledged that over 100 homes in the area were touched by the careful hand of Jon Mechlin and his crews.

Jon's life was marked with an intense desire to always give his best, even in leisure activities. He played Rugby for UMass and was an incredibly competitive skier. He enjoyed the exhilarating experience of Tuckerman's Ravine dozens of times with friends and was nationally ranked as a senior Alpine Skier by NASTAR at the age of 67.

On top of it all Jon was always able to look at any situation life might bring with a sense of humor. Those that knew him well would call it traditional New England, dry and witty, a sensibility where no opinion couldn't be taken down a peg.

Every place and space from Haiti to Hudson, Clinton to Costa Rica, and from Trinity to Tuckerman's, was better with Jon in it.

Calling hours will be held on Friday May 8th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water Street, Clinton, MA. A Funeral Service will be held at on Saturday May 9th at 10:00 AM at Trinity Church, located at 14 Wattaquadock Hill Road, Bolton, MA, followed by the internment at Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson, MA, and a reception at Slater's at 356 Main Street in Bolton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Roblealto Association for the Welfare of Children in loving memory of Jonathan Neil Mechlin (https://roblealto.org/donar/)
