Richard(Dick) Dean Wagner, 85, died March 25, 2026, in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Dick was born in Van Wert, OH, resided, raised a family and ran a business in Lima, OH, before retiring to Hobe Sound, FL, in 1999 with his late wife of 47 years, Cris (Renz) Wagner and then to Murrells Inlet in 2008 with his partner of 18 years, Cathy Renzulli. Dick was a fair but fierce competitor, whether running his business, competing briefly in professional and regularly in recreational sports or coaching his sons' youth teams. Dick was not all competition but showed compassion for local nature, backyard creatures, domestic pets, beloved neighbours, and fellow patrons and staff at the Murrells Inlet local restaurants. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Cris(Renz); father, Harold, and mother, Jane(Dustman) Wagner; sister, Phyllis, and brother-in-law, Don Leis; sister-in-law, Cathy(Renz) Haney, and brother-in-law, Bob Haney; step-son, Christopher Atkinson. Survivors include partner, Cathy Renzulli; sons Jon(Stephanie) Wagner of Westlake, OH, and James(Brenda) Wagner of Lake Country, B.C., Canada; step-son James D.(Brenda) Atkinson, Jr. of Clover, S.C.; and grandchildren Helen, Elliot, Elise & Quinn Wagner; sister-in-law Julia(Renz) Hagen and brother-in-law Dick Hagen of Grandview, OH; nieces Gretchen Firchau, Jeni(Jo Ann Gordon) Leis and nephews Brad(Ginny) Leis, Mike(Cindy) Leis and Erik(Nathasha) Hagen. SERVICES: Dick's funeral was held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Burroughs Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, S.C. Dick was entombed at Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City, FL.
