Sebastian Joseph Addesso of Murrells Inlet, SC, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Some lives speak quietly; his is one such story.

There is a discipline of duty that shapes a life long after the uniform is set aside.

Sebastian "Subby" Addesso, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away on April 29, 2026. He was born on June 25, 1949, in Reading, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Mount Penn, where he often described his childhood as "the best anyone could ever have"-surrounded by loving parents, good friends, and a strong sense of community.

He attended St. Catherine of Siena School and went on to graduate from Reading Central Catholic High School. During those years, he developed a love for music, playing the trumpet in his high school band and spending late nights practicing for spring musicals-something that reflected both his dedication and passion.

Following high school, Sebastian proudly served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War, working aboard an aircraft carrier. After his service, he continued his education at Penn State Berks campus in Reading.

Sebastian later joined his father-who was not only a mentor but also his best friend-in the family shoe repair business in Mount Penn, a trade that had been passed down through generations in his family. In the 1980s, he took ownership of the business, continuing its legacy through years of hard work and commitment. He officially retired in 2012 at the age of 63.

In September of 1980, he married the love of his life, Elaine (Herflicker) Addesso, and together they built a life centered on family. In June of 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Tanya M. Berndt, followed by their son, Joseph J. Addesso, in November of 1983.

Tanya is married to David J. Berndt of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and together they have a son, Alexander. Joseph is engaged to Angela Meadows and has a son, Sebastian, who held a special place in his grandfather's heart. Sebastian was a constant and loving presence in his grandson's life, helping to raise and care for him each day.

He is also survived by his sister, Rosemarie Palwick of The Villages, Florida, and her husband, Edward Palwick, as well as many cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Addesso, and his mother, Mary Merlino Addesso.

Known to many as "Subby," Sebastian was a man whose presence was felt immediately-his smile could light up a room. He was kind, deeply caring, and a devoted Catholic. A hardworking provider, he always made sure his family was taken care of and never did anything halfway-if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. He had a natural ability to make people laugh and an even greater ability to listen. He was also a diehard Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, always proudly cheering on his teams.

He took great pride in his Italian heritage and carried that pride throughout his life. In his later years, he even set out to learn the Italian language-something he approached with enthusiasm and curiosity, though he never quite made the trip to Italy he had hoped for.

He also developed a strong love of reading, often diving into complex books simply for the joy of learning. He enjoyed working in his yard, playing pool, and swimming laps at the community pool. Toward the end of his life, he found peace in daily meditation-something he often shared he wished he had discovered earlier.

After retirement, Sebastian and Elaine moved to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. While life became a bit quieter, his days were filled with time spent with his grandson, Sebastian, who was by his side almost every day. Together they shared countless moments, including simple joys like going on bike rides-memories that will be cherished forever.

Above all, Subby was deeply loved. To know him was to love him, and his warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Visitation will be held prior to service time starting at 11:00AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 12:00pm at Precious Blood of Christ 1633 Waverly Road Pawleys Island, SC 29585. Burial to follow at Precious Blood of Christ Graveyard.
