Thomas Nitchman of Shoshoni, WY, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.
A life remembered begins, simply, with the telling.
Thomas spent his working life as ['journeyman meat cutter throughout his life'] — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.
Time has its way of binding people together.
Thomas "Ray" Nitchman, 63, of Shoshoni, Wyoming, passed away on April 22, 2026, in Thermopolis, Wyoming.
Ray was born July 8, 1962, in Billings, Montana, to Thomas Adam Nitchman and Marsha Low Nitchman. He grew up in Billings until moving to Jeffrey City at the age of 13, where he later graduated high school.
Ray worked as a journeyman meat cutter throughout his life, a trade he truly enjoyed and took pride in. His work history included time at a packing house in Washington, Wind River Processing, Smith's Grocery, and Mack's Market. In addition to his full-time work, Ray spent over 30 years cutting wild game for friends, family, and members of the community, as well as flea marketing.
On August 12, 1995, Ray married Mireille Lynn Gardner in Thermopolis, Wyoming. They shared over 30 years together and built a life centered around family and community. Ray was a Christian and an active member of Wind River Church of Shoshoni, Wyoming, where he enjoyed reading his Bible and attending services with his wife. Ray and Mireille greatly enjoyed the congregation and the fellowship they shared with their church family.
Ray was well known for his generosity and involvement in his community. He participated in Shoshoni Cleanup Days and was always willing to lend a helping hand, often donating his time and supplies. In recognition of his years of service, he received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Town of Shoshoni on November 23, 2014.
He had many interests and hobbies, including fishing, carpentry, riding motorcycles, playing horseshoes and darts, flea marketing, and spending time with friends and family. Ray was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. He also enjoyed raising chickens, pickling eggs, and took pride in his work as a meat cutter.
Ray is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Mireille Nitchman; sons, Matthew (Christine) Nitchman, Anthony Taylor Nitchman, and Trinity (Taelor Jackson) Nitchman; daughters, Tiffany (Rob) Randal and Desiree Taylor Nitchman; six grandchildren, Lane Randall, Jacob Randall, Jahazara Jackson, Kish Jr. Jackson, Brooks Nitchman, and Wilder Nitchman; brothers, Jim Nitchman, Keith Roberts, and Paul Hutzi; and sister, Susan Lehmkuhl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Adam and Marsha Maudean Nitchman; grandparents, Sheldon and Rose Nitchman and James and Jacqueline Lowe; brothers, John Nitchman and Mickey Roberts; and sisters, Kay Nitchman and Mary Hallett.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., July 11, 2026, at Lakeview Cemetery in Shoshoni, Wyoming, and will be officiated by Pastor Phil Mark of Wind River Church of Shoshoni, Wyoming. Please join the family following the graveside services for a reception at the Shoshoni Senior Center.
