After a life of love and quiet grace, Leroy James Hemenway of Rochester, MN has passed.

Behind every name is a life, and behind every life are the people who loved it.

Some answer a call. Leroy was one of them.

Leroy James Hemenway

Leroy James Hemenway was born on December 4,1935 in Albert Lea Minnesota to Herbert and Mildred Hemenway. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 1, 2026, in Rochester Minnesota.

Leroy grew up in Albert Lea surrounded by extended family, including many beloved nieces and nephews. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his time in the Army, while stationed in Germany, he would meet and marry the love of his life, Magdalena "Leni" Imhof.

Following his military service, he returned to the US and began his incredible 30+ years career working for I.B.M. in North Carolina and Minnesota. Most notably as a project manager on the AS400 line, retiring in 1992.

Leroy and Leni were blessed with three wonderful sons, James, Robert, and Andrew. As his boys were growing up, he was an active father from coaching their sports teams and teaching them how to fish, he was always an example of how to be a great man, father, and friend.

Grandpa Lee was a dearly loved grandfather by his five grandchildren, Katarina, Lauren, Joseph, Jack, and Boston. Spending time with them in the yard, as well as attending their many school activities, he was always available for a card game or just a smile of encouragement.

Leroy is survived by his wife of 67 years Magdalena, sons: James (Jackie LeTourneau), Robert (Mary), Andrew (Erin), and grandchildren: Katarina Hemenway Dewar (John), Lauren Hemenway Meghani (Alyshan), Joseph (Grace Braegelman), Jack, and Boston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Herbert "Ray" Hemenway, Ada Condiff, Lionel "Irv" Hemenway, Ira Hemenway, and Ruby Thereau

Leroy was cherished by all and touched many lives with his kindness. He was truly a gentle soul with a courageous heart and a quiet strength that lit every room he entered. His impact will live on for generations.

Memorial Gatherings will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, and from 10:00-11:45 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, all in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 92.
