It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Peter A. Requa of Rochester, NY — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Below, the simplest tribute: the truth of a life as it was lived.

Peter held deeply to the Jewish faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

The traditions Peter loved will continue to hold those he loved.

Peter Requa, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly on April 25, 2026, at the age of 80.

He was predeceased by his parents, Newell and Janet (Hoffman) Requa. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Druce) Newman; daughters, Kimberly Moffitt and Amy Requa; granddaughter, Cassandra Dean (Matthew Pulos); grandson, Sean Orner (Janelle); and great-grandchildren, Flora and Nova Orner. He also leaves behind several cousins and numerous friends whose lives he touched deeply.

Peter loved his cherished Labradors and is now reunited with Welby, Vinny and Trooper. He is survived by sweet Walden who will miss him dearly.

Peter lived with a quiet but unshakable faith, drawing strength and purpose from his deep trust in God.

He spent his life selflessly helping others, strongly committed in supporting those less fortunate. He dedicated much of his life to service as a probation and parole officer, tirelessly working to help individuals find a better path forward, offering guidance, accountability, and compassion.

In his retirement years, Peter continued his mission of service as a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, helping to prepare service dogs that would enable individuals who are blind to navigate the world with greater independence. For more than 20 years, he also collected returnable cans and bottles, donating the proceeds to various charities throughout the Rochester area. Known fondly in the community as the "Can Man," Peter turned small acts into meaningful impact. His kindness, generosity, and quiet dedication made a lasting impression on all who knew him.

In his younger years, Peter was an avid athlete who embraced endurance and challenge. He participated in several marathons, spent long hours biking in organized events, and completed a mini triathlon, reflecting his determination and love of an active life.

Peter's legacy is one of faith, compassion, service, and community. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Family and friends are invited to receive and celebrate Peter's life on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 1200 Edgewood Avenue, Rochester, NY.
